Take advantage of the ecoENERGY Retrofit grant to make your home more energy efficient and help you save money.

To qualify, follow these five easy steps:

• Hire Ridge Energy Consultants Inc. to perform an energy evaluation of your home.
• Select the improvements from your home energy action checklist.
• Implement the recommended energy upgrades within 18 months.
• Call us back to perform your post-retrofit evaluation, to confirm your new energy rating and to submit your application on your behalf.
• Wait to receive your cheque based on the eligible upgrades performed!

The Energy Assessment:

Preparation:
Clean the ashes from your wood burning fireplace – we don't want to blow them around when the blower door test is going on.
Provide access to the attic access hatch - we need to get our ladder in this area to gain access to the attic where we will take pictures, look at the construction, measure your insulation level and check for any issues.

The Visit:
There are two visits. The first one is an assessment as to the efficiency of your home prior to any upgrades or changes. The second visit is to verify your changes, up to 18 months later (or March 31st, 2011 whichever comes first) and apply for the Grant.
A typical first visit will take between one hour and 45 minutes to two hours depending on the size of your house and the number of questions you ask. The end of the visit is a sit down time with you for 15 minutes to go through the incentive program and answer questions. We encourage homeowners to walk around with the Energy Advisor and ask questions as the assessment progresses.
A very important part of the visit is the blower door test which is where you get to find out where all of your drafts are and we will explain how you can fix them.
The homeowner must always be present as there are documents to sign.
The second visit is shorter. The Energy Advisor will verify the changes you have made, ensure compliance with the program and perform a second blower door test. Note that there is an incentive to reduce your air leakages and the second blower door test will measure how well you have done in sealing up your home as well as determine the incentive for air sealing. We also perform a combustion spillage safety check and advise you accordingly - although it is very wise to install CO detectors and smoke detectors on every floor of your home.

The Report:
After the first visit you will receive a comprehensive report and Energuide Label for your house - within 2 weeks. At this time you should review the report and call us if you have any questions. The recommendations in the report are just that, recommendations – you can choose to do all of them, none of them or some of them, it is up to you.
When you feel you have done all that you can do, call us for the follow up second visit and grant application.
