THE ENERGY ASSESSMENT
PREPARATION:
Clean the ashes from your wood burning fireplace - we don't want the ashes to blow around when the blower door test is going on.
Provide access to the attic access hatch - we need to gain access to the attic so we can take pictures and assess the attic construction and insulation level.
THE VISIT:
Eligiblity for grants requires that two audits be conducted (a pre- and post- Retrofit audit).
PRE-RETROFIT AUDIT
A pre-retrofit audit is conducted to measure the efficiency of your home prior to any upgrades or changes.
A typical pre-retrofit audit takes between 1.5 hrs and 2 hours.
During this visit the energy advisor will take photos and assess your home and note the following information :
- Geometry of your home
- Attic Construction and insulation levels
- Basement/Crawlspace Construction and insulation levels
- Wall Construction and insulation levels
- Heating and Cooling System
- Domestic Hot Water System
- HRV system
- Type of Windows, Doors and Skylights
- Base loads (Toilet Consumption Level)
During the pre-retrofit audit a blower door test will also be conducted to measure air leakage in your home.
During the visit the Energy Advisor will review with you the areas that can be improved upon and within 14 days of the audit you will receive a detailed report on your home, upgrades that can be done as well as and EnerGuide rating for your home.
POST-RETROFIT AUDIT
A post-retrofit audit is conducted to measure the efficiency of your home after all upgrades are completed.
A typical post-retrofit audit takes between 30 minutes to 1 hour.
During the visit the Energy Advisor conducts another blower door test to measure air leakage after upgrades, as well as note all upgrades that were done and take photos of those upgrades. The Energy Advisor will take photos of all documents (i.e. receipts) related to the upgrades made on your home.
Within 14 days of conducting your audit you will receive a new EnerGuide rating label showing the new rating of your home.
